Obit-CarsonJoanna Henthorne Carson, 80, of Edgewood Drive, Weston passed away at 7:25 a.m. Thursday, February 27, 2014 at her residence following an extended illness.

She was born June 6, 1933 in Gilmer County a daughter of the late Oscar E. Barnette and Corinda Kathryn McHenry Barnette.

She was twice married. On January 24, 1958 she married Kenneth Ray Henthorne who passed away May 31, 2004, then on August 10, 2011 she married Charles Carson, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons: Kenneth, Mark Henthorne and wife, Bridgette of Amanda, OH; Timothy Ray Henthorne and wife, Martina of Logan, OH; and David Alan Henthorne and wife, Michelle of French Creek; five grandchildren: Kenny, Kory, Kaitlin, Dylan, and Little David; one brother, Jimmy Barnette and wife, Patricia of Weston; three sisters: Jean Barath and husband, Donald of New Franklin OH; Betty Moss and husband, Richard of Fredericksburg VA; Vonda Kuhl of Fairmont.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Carl Barnette.

Joanna was employed as a sales associate for Big Lots for over ten years. She collected hats and had a passion for writing.

She wrote Pat's Chat, a column in the Weston Democrat for many years, as well as a community publication entitled, Tattle Tales and Other Things. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Weston, where she taught Sunday School, led a prayer group, served as a Deacon of the church, and read her bible daily. She organized Themed Class Reunion Parties for her class of 1952 from Burnsville High School, as well as family reunions. She enjoyed vegetable gardening, canning, and spending time with her family.

Friends and family gathered at the First Baptist Church of Weston from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014.

Funeral Services followed at 3:00 p.m., Reverend Kenneth Miller officiated. Interment followed in the K of P Cemetery in Burnsville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Weston at 132 East Second St., Weston, WV 26452.
