Emma C. Cutright, born in Gilmer Co. WV on April 21, 1920 stepped peacefully into her new life in the early hours of October 18, 2013, at the age of 93 following years at Riverside Memory Wing in Newcomerstown. A graduate of Glenville Teachers’ College she taught in Maryland, During WW II she moved to Canton with a sister and friend to make bullets at Timken, Rosie-the-Riveter style. She taught at the one-room school house in Cedarville, WV., of which a memorial can be visited still today.
She married and moved to Newcomerstown, teaching at Plainfield, then at Newcomerstown Elementary school until her retirement. She beat cancer 34 years ago. Her heart remained in West Virginia. Her life was her students, showing them how to knit, fold paper fish and glitter waxed stars. Her pride was her two daughters. Her joy was her two grandsons. She is survived by her daughters, Susie Hart with husband, Chris of Port Washington; and Nancy Orr with husband, Jeff of Newcomerstown; grandsons, Adam Hart with wife, Lisa of Aberdeen, NC; and Jonathan Orr of Columbus.
Emma was the daughter of the late Samuel H. and Sudie Richards Carson.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by all her brothers; Howard, Russell, Roy, Robert and Carl; both her beloved sisters, Dollie and Hallie.
Graveside services will be held at Sand Fork WV. with Pastor Brian Groves officiating. Addy Funeral Home in Newcomerstown is handling arraignments.
