Attn.: Affordable Care Act deadline next Mon., Mar. 31; see Senior Cr.

With little more than one week left to sign up for the Affordable Care Act (a/k/a "Obamacare"), advocates of health insurance enrollment are pushing for uninsured people to sign up for coverage before next Mon, Mar. 31, the deadline to buy insurance in 2014 without facing a penalty.

If you are uninsured, and interested in signing up, please contact the Gilmer County Senior Center at 304-462-5761 and ask for Bobbi Moss or Kelly Radcliff. Don't allow the open enrollment period to pass by without signing up.

WV Humanities Council offers a mini-grant program

The WV Humanities Council, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, serves WV through grants and direct programs in the humanities.

A variety of grants are offered to nonprofit organizations that support educational programs each year. Check their website at or call Amy Postalwait at 304.346.8500 for more information.

Benefit Dinner for Cancer Fund

From noon to 3 p.m. on this Sun., Mar. 30, the volunteers of the First Baptist Church of Glenville "Cancer Fund" will sponsor a Baked Steak Dinner at the East Main Street Church. The Cancer Fund benefits those locally afflicted with the disease in meeting some of their expenses. To-date, $47,000 has been used.
