Political alert: Gilmer County candidates' filing period for office ends this Sat., Jan. 25

valentineadIn Gilmer County, the elective offices of one County Commissioner (Center or City District), three Board of Education members (City, Troy/DeKalb, Center or Glenville), Republican and Democratic County Executive Committee members are open for filing of candidacies until this Sat., Jan. 25, according to County Clerk Jean Butcher.

The filing fees are $277.20 for county commissioner; $25.00, Board of Education members; and $10.00, Democratic or Republican County Executive Board members, she specifies.
Potential candidates should check into the County Clerk's office as soon as possible because the deadline is this Sat., Jan. 25, 2014.

"The filings for these elective offices have been very slow," County Clerk Butcher indicated on last Friday.

Those individuals seeking the state or regional offices in the May Primary must file at the Secretary of State's Office in the State Capitol in Charleston. State offices are mainly State Delegates and State Senators, many of whom have already made their political notices known.
