NEW UPDATES: ‘Rosie The Riveter’ Bell dedication

At 12:30 p.m. on Sat., Apr. 28, the historic Bell, donated by Mrs. Ruby Coberly (a Rosie herself), will be dedicated in a Glenville Dedication Ceremony at City Park downtown. Mr. Gary Coberly, a Glenville resident and son of Mrs. Coberly, is the event’s principal organizer and promoter. He says there will be speakers, GSC Jazz Ensemble swing music, and refreshments, with the activities ending at 2:30 p.m. In addition to his mother, he has invited 41 other Rosies from throughout this state to participate. He has also written several articles explaining how the Rosies helped on the homefront to win WV II. In addition, Mayor Dennis Fitzpatrick is making certain that the historic bell’s Victorian-style pole will be completed in time for the ceremony, he stated at the Mon., Mar. 5 City Council meeting. Marissa Fox, a scout leader, says that the local Girl Scout Troop will help out, too. As of Mon., Feb. 19, 325 people had been notified, via the Rosies’ Facebook page, of this special ceremony. Beforehand at 11 a.m., the Rosies themselves will be treated to a meal at the Cornerstone Cafe, with Mr. Coberly doing the fundraising to pay for it for the visiting Rosies only.
