NHCC Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser

The Normantown Historical Community Center will be having a spaghetti dinner fundraiser on July 22, 2018 from 11am to 2 pm. Carryout will be available.

Feed and Read

This Saturday, July 7th, the Feed and Read Program will be at Troy/Linn reading aloud and giving food boxes from Gilmer CRI. The Feed and Read will be at Somerville Exxon from 11:30am—12:30pm. Come and join us!

Organizational Quilt/Sewing meeting

There will be an organizational quilt/sewing meeting on Wednesday evening July 18 at 7:00 at the Chapel Community Building. Food Pantry at NHCC

The Food Pantry at NHCC (Normantown Historical Community Center) will be open July 13 2018 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. We will be taking new Pantry applications and new Senior box applications. We will be servicing Pantry and Senior box clients. Bring your own containers. The Clothes Closet will be open 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm. The clothes are FREE. Gilmer County Farm Bureau Picnic

The Gilmer County Farm Bureau picnic will be held Mon., July 9, 2018 at the Recreation Center’s lower pavilion beginning at 6:00 pm. Bring a covered dish and enjoy the fellowship. Farm Bureau will provide the hot dogs, buns, place setting, etc. See you there!


Ernestine Post, SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program) Counselor from Braxton County Senior Citizens Center will be at Gil-Co Faith Pharmacy in Glenville on Wed., July 11 and Mon., July 23. If you have any questions about your Medicare benefits, to sign up for Medicare or to see if you qualify for Extra Help with your prescription drugs, please stop by to see her or call 304 765-4091 to schedule an appointment. She will be available from 9:00 AM -3:00 PM.


July 13, 2018 the Gilmer County Democratic Women will be having a dinner at Shawnee Hall at the Gilmer Co. Rec. Center. More information to come.


The annual Gilmer County Association of Retired School Employees picnic will be at the Glenville Presbyterian Church on Tues., July 17, 2018 beginning at 5 pm. Members, bring a covered dish and a spouse or friend! New members are always welcome and encouraged to attend.



The annual reunion of the Roy and Cora (Moore) Alltop family will be held on Saturday, July 7, at the Harlen Alltop Farm on Steer Run, Normantown. Travis Alltop and his band will be with us again this year and Travis will be delivering a sermon following the meal on Saturday. The “Fisher Family” is supposed to sing on Friday evening also. Everyone is invited to come and join us on Friday evening to be entertained or Saturday for the reunion. The business meeting will begin promptly at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Hope to see you there!


The Perry and Ella Marks family reunion will be held Sun., July 8, 2018 at the Gilmer County Rec. Center from 9 am to 3 pm. Everyone is invited! Bring a covered dish and something for the blind raffle.

Copen Independent Church VBS

Copen Independent Baptist Church will be having VBS July 16-20 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

Orlando Methodist Charge VBS

The Orlando Charge Methodist churches will be holding Vacation Bible school July 8th thru 13th at the Oil Creek United Methodist Church on Red Lick Road at Roanoke. Our theme this year is Shipwrecked, Rescued by Jesus. Activities will begin July 8th with registration at 5:30, followed by opening activities starting at 6 p.m. We will have a preschool class, elementary classes and this year a teen class. Crews will rotate to different stations for different activities. Then they will return to the sanctuary for closing activities. On Friday the 13th we will have a review for parents at 6 p.m. followed by dinner in the fellowship hall. We ask that all preschoolers attending be accompanied by an adult. Hope you will join us to learn how Jesus rescues us. All are welcome, so bring a friend or several friends.

Steve Warren Gospel Sing

Steve Warren, of Cookeville TN, will be at the Clover Fork Singing Grounds in Orlando on Sat., July 14, 2018, rain or shine! Just take Exit 79 off of I-79 to the Motel and follow the signs. Steven will begin singing at 12 pm (noon). There is shelter and plenty of seating, but you may enjoy sitting in your favorite lawn chair so feel free to bring it along. Refreshments will be available. There is no admission charge. Come and enjoy an afternoon of fun, food, fellowship, and some good old Southern Gospel music.
