Mary Jane Bayer, 87, of Vienna, passed away Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016 at her residence.
She was born in Parkersburg, August 7, 1928, the daughter of the late Thomas H. and Blanch Nicholas Miles.
Mary was a graduate of Parkersburg High School, Glenville State College and received her master’s degree from West Virginia University. She had taught school in Gilmer and Wood County, retiring from Wood County Schools in 1993. She was a member of Wayside United Methodist Church where she had taught Sunday School, was active with the United Methodist Women’s and the Alter Guild. She was a member of the Jr. Women’s Club and the Women’s Club.
Surviving Mary Jane are her children, Daniel W. Bayer of Cincinnati, OH; Maria Beth Bayer of Mineral Wells, and her brothers, Wayne Miles of FL; and Roy Miles of Vienna.
In addition to her parents, Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. D. Edward Bayer, granddaughter, Courtney Jane, and two brothers, Lewis Miles and George Edward Miles.
The funeral service were at 2:00 p.m., Thursday at the Wayside United Methodist Church. Rev. Sandy Runion officiated. Burial was at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation was from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg and for one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
