Obit LVanhorn

Leona Mae VanHoose, age 62, of Cowen; formerly of Glenville, departed this life on Friday, June 24, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Glasgow; following an extended illness.

Born August 13, 1953 in Gilmer County; Leona was the daughter of the late Leland and Mary Morris McCullough.

Leona was a cook in the food service industry, having served the community of Glenville for more than 22 years. In her spare time, Leona enjoyed reading books, playing cards, and was every active in the Gilmer County Senior Center. Leona was also a former member of the Chatty Ladies of Cedarville.

On January 1, 1975 she was united in marriage to Frank VanHoose, who preceded her in death on July 20, 2003.

Surviving are two daughters, Michele VanHoose of Cowen; and Melissa VanHoose of Dunbar.

Also surviving are seven siblings, Woody McCullough, Gladys Ellison, Mary Lou Dennison, Nancy McCullough, Sherman McCullough, Alice Hamric, and Arthur McCullough and several nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband Leona was preceded in death by three siblings, John McCullough, Andrew McCullough and Lillian Clevenger.

Leona’s request for cremation has been honored and a Memorial Service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc; 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 11:00 AM; Thursday, June 30, 2016 with Pastor Bryan Groves officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 AM; Thursday morning at the mortuary. Burial will follow in the Dusk Camp Methodist Cemetery in Dusk Camp Run Road.
