Claudia Louise Rexroad Rock, 68, of Alum Bridge, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of Tuesday, June 7, 2016.
She was born in Weston on September 13, 1947 a daughter of the late Hayward Virgil Stout and Claudie McCartney Stout.
She is survived by her husband, Cliff, who she married on June 14, 2008, after a 15 year partnership. She’s also survived by her sister, Freda Biegle and husband, Tom, and five nephews, of Marietta, CA. She was a loving, caring mother to three sons who were the light of her life: Gregory Borowski and friend, Tina, James Empoules and wife, Mandy, and Sean Presgraves, all of Weston; three grandchildren: Phoebe Presgraves and Makaela and Simon Empoules.
Claudia traveled extensively in her younger years, attending school in Texas and teaching in Virginia before returning to Weston. She graduated from Glenville State College and worked at the Weston State Hospital as a patient advocate, and later as a counselor in the corrections system.
She was a talented artist, working in many mediums. She was a poet and writer, writing the column, “What’s On Your Mind” for both local newspapers. She was CEO of Willlow Creek Glass, which she founded with her husband, Cliff. They made and sold handmade glass art crafted from recycled glass. They traveled throughout the southeast US to many shows, fairs, and festivals. Their glass was sold internationally in many shops, and they were awarded “Craftsman of the Year” in 1996 at Tamarack ,“The Best of WV”.
She loved tending to her roses. She was a kind, caring person and her love for animals was well known. She was a friend to all wildlife, especially making sure that the birds were always fed. She will be missed by her family pets: Boomer, Sadie, Maggie, Ollie, and recently adopted baby; her cats, Puss-Puss, PPiddle, Sweetie, Timothy, the Old Man, and others. She was a conservationist – a member of the Arbor Day Foundation, the Nature Conservancy, National Wildlife Society, and the Sierra Club, among others.
Claudia will be missed by her many friends in the Art and Craft World, her neighbors, and her family, especially her devoted husband, Cliff, who was her soul mate and best friend.
Claudia’s request for cremation has been honored and her family will have a private Celebration of Life Service at a later date. Expressions of sympathy may be sent directly to her family at 1541 Walnut Fork Alum Bridge, WV 26321. In lieu of flowers donations may be made at the funeral home to assist the family with final expenses.
