Earnest “Fay” Hamric, 84, of Sand Fork, was called Home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 13, 2020, at the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston, following complications of a heart attack.
Fay Hamric was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Fay is survived by brother-in-laws, Earl “Monk” Flint, of Heaters, sister-in-laws, Wavelene Leone, of Poca, Marlene Fitzwater, of Heaters, and Ora Wright, of Eleanor, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Odbert and Lois Hamric, and beloved wife, Colleen Flint Hamric, brothers, Herman, Denzil, and his twin, Ray Hamric, sisters, Irene Minich, Marie Smith, Mary Jane Rose, and Neta Jean Gum, brother-in-laws, Clyde, Burton, Bill, Johnny, and Jim Flint and sister-in-law, Florine Adkins.
Fay was a very loving and giving soul. He was a member and Deacon of the Sand Fork Baptist Church. Fay graduated from Sand Fork High School with the class of 1954 and was also a member of the Baseball Team. He later played for the Gassaway baseball team in the Hacker Valley league. He held the position of pitcher. Fay then enlisted in the United States Army on January 25, 1956 and was honorably discharged on January 10, 1958. Fay was deployed to Germany for a year during times of peace. Fay worked as a roustabout for Equitable Gas and had 37 years of service.
Family received friends on Thursday, April 16, 2020 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home, 378 Flatwoods Corner Road, Flatwoods, WV 26621. Following visitation, a funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. at the Stockert Paletti Chapel. Pastor Bryan Groves and Reverend Don Dague officiated. A private graveside service was held in the Heaters Cemetery with Full Military Honors conducted by the Sutton, WV American Legion Post #33. Interment followed graveside services at Heaters Cemetery.
